00:44:34 Welcome Sarah Barton & Swift from Wyoming
- Clearly a dedicated student, perfect for today, because she’s working on Liberty, Horsemanship, and Healthy Movement with her 7 Year-old AQHA, Swift, and using a Clicker for communication and motivation.

01:17:57 Q & A Sarah?
- from what Karen and David just said about walking in a parallel circle with your horse asking for shoulder in: does the human walk with the horse and the human is facing forward in the same direction as they are moving? Or is the human facing toward the back of the horse and walking backwards while the horse is facing forwards on the circle?
- Online, how to get your horse to canter if he keeps trotting, without making your body language bigger? (related to the video with Sarah B and her lovely black horse!)
01:23:44 Goodbye Sarah

01:39:22 Welcome Melina & Sabri from Lyons France
01:48:06 Melina Video
“I would like to improve on the « keep going », rewarding his trials without stopping (as these are not new exercises) and extending gait without necessarily letting his head go down (having to deal with balance so he doesn’t put more weight on his shoulders)”
1:56:50 Q&A Melina
- My gelding does online work with a sour face in the arena. However, in an open pasture, he brightens and gets positive. How to get same look in arena?
02:03:30 Bye Melina and final Q&A
- How long did it take for your horses to understand the feeding process?
- when doing some liberty in his pen..... he walks over to get water when he wants too and we are not done yet. do you accept that?
- I have a horse that has a tendency to pin his ears when I ask for effort. Do I ignore this? Sometimes he will even give less effort as well as pinning his ears? I will do “are you ready” and trying to be light hearted. He answers me with his ears. When I follow through the ears can go back more. Help please
- Can you provide a straightforward explanation of how to use positive reinforcement under saddle?

Here's a list of questions answered in writing after the workshop:
How long did it take for your horses to understand the feeding process?
when doing some liberty in his pen..... he walks over to get water when he wants too and we are not done yet. do you accept that?
I would love some guidance as to how to teach my guy to happily do a few circles online. I don't have the set up to do reverse round pen and when I try to have him follow a target, he gets real 'ear pinny'. The farthest I have gotten is getting him to target a couple of cones in a row
My gelding does online work with a sour face in the arena. However, in an open pasture, he brightens and gets positive. How to get same look in arena?
how about relaxation as a reward?
Is the intermediate bridge done differently on the ground vs in the saddle?
What kind of saddle was that? Looked like no stirrups?
Hoq to teach it [feeding safely] to 16 horses? On the halter first? I am talking about the horses of the riding school for disabled (David has been there, in Netherlands). Feeding time is a mess…..
What are some good treats to try for training??? What do you two like to use? I assume a smaller treat is good for a longer session etc. so I am curious and haven't really seen this discussed anywhere and I am just getting into using food as a reward. Thanks!!
At liberty eg circling, my horse keeps the connection but sometimes wanders a bit at a bigger distance than the original circle, (he´s not sure what to do?). At these times, he sometimes offers things that I havent´t asked for eg sideways. Should I go back online?
On line, how to get your horse to canter if he keeps trotting, without making your body language bigger? (related to the video with Sarah B and her lovely black horse!)
How do we motivate our horses to be more expressive?
from what Karen and David just said about walking in a parallel circle with your horse asking for shoulder in: does the human walk with the horse and the human is facing forward in the same direction as they are moving? Or is the human facing toward the back of the horse and walking backwards while the horse is facing forwards on the circle?
what is a cordero?
Ah David I once did a workshop with you and you had a couple of songs linked to specific beats trot/canter etc. Would you share that again for fun?
How to correct the crooked back-up in stick to me?
"I have a horse that has a tendency to pin his ears when I ask for effort.
Do I ignore this?
Sometimes he will even give less effort as well as pinning his ears? I will do “are you ready” and trying to be light hearted. He answers me with his ears. When I follow through the ears can go back more. Help please"
I never thought about training with music on. How do you think this benefits the training process?
Are coordination excercises along the line of building muscle memory?
Can you provide a straightforward explanation of how to use positive reinforcement under saddle?
==================================
My friend, colleague, mentor, and author of Dressage Naturally - The bridge between Natural Horsemanship and Dressage, will be joining us to answer all your questions about how Liberty Training has influenced her Dressage. I was her first introduction into Natural Horsemanship, and she has been my best introduction to Dressage.
I have traveled all over the world to connect with Karen, co-teaching clinics and attending workshops taught by other mentors. Karen was the first Natural Horsewoman to perform with Equus Projects - Dancing with Horses, where we shared our love of music and dance with JoAnna Mendl Shaw and her amazing group of dancers.
In Dressage Naturally, Karen introduces the concept of The Sweet Spot - that place where Relaxation, Energy & Balance intersect. I've asked Karen to speak to us about how we can find that Sweet Spot in Liberty, and how we can transfer the fun, bonding and relationship of Liberty to our riding. Not to be missed!
The Best Ways for Me to Help You with Your Liberty
There are two very effective ways for me to help you excel in Liberty Training, and improve the relationship you have with your horses. First, having a one-on-one coaching session, and second, to observe a series of these sessions as a “Gallery Student.” I am now offering these opportunities in an on-line Webinar event.
The David Lichman Video Coaching Webinar Experience
Sit in the Gallery, watch, listen and post questions for two hours, as I advise and coach students on their individual video submissions. During the event I will share the student videos - stopping, starting and highlighting relevant sections while I discuss with the student my thoughts and suggestions.
